Cleveland County Detention Center Inmate, 58, Dies After Being Found Unresponsive

A 58-year-old inmate at the Cleveland County Detention Center died on Saturday after being found unresponsive.

A 58-year-old inmate at the Cleveland County Detention Center died on Saturday after being found unresponsive.

The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office said Thomas Sanchez Pesina, was declared dead at the hospital at 12:17 p.m. on May 4, 2024.

CCSO said a preliminary review shows Pesina interacting with his cellmate in the morning, and no issues were detected during in-person sight checks from 7:22 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Authorities said Pesina was served his food and ate his meal at 10:20 a.m. and by 11:35 a.m. he was found unresponsive.

Two minutes later, medical and detention staff were administering CPR. He was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead.

CCSO said medical staff reported no signs of physical trauma to Pesina. The Medical Examiner will determine his cause of death.

The CCSO opened an investigation into the death and requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to assist.
